How to Perfect a Backhand Throw

Learning how to perfect a backhand throw is challenging. Most young players are taught to get in front of the ball no matter where the ball is hit. When the fielder tries to get in front of a ball that Is hit to his right he cannot control his body to throw the ball back to first base.

When fielding a ground ball with a backhand, the fielding position is quite similar to the one that is used when fielding a conventional ground ball. In this scenario, your feet will make an angle of 45 degrees, with your throwing hand foot positioned behind you and your glove hand foot positioned in front of you. After then, point the thumb of your glove toward the ground. It is essential to keep a low base with the glove out in front of you and your eyes focused on following the ball into the web of the glove if you wish to be successful. This ground ball is going to bounce straight out of the pocket of the glove if you try to catch it there.

Drills that focus on footwork and positioning do not need to include catching the ball. To practice the moves, you will start from your ready posture by planting your rear foot at a 45-degree angle, keeping a low base while moving forward. Have a coach or teammate roll the ball to you, and you must let it to make contact with the instep of the foot on the throwing side. You may determine where you need to be to make a backhand play by placing your feet into the correct position so that the rolled ball hits your instep. This will allow you to make and perfect the backhand throw
